Abstract
USE OF PULSED ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION IS PROPOSED AS A MEANS TTO DETOXIFY EQUIPMENT USED IN THE PREPARATION OF TOXIC CH CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS. THE RADIATION WILL SERVE TO BOTH V VAPORIZE MATERIAL ADHERING TO THE SURFACE AS WELL AS TO BRING ABOUT PHOTOLYTIC DESTRUCTION. THIS COMBINATION OF EFFEFFECT IS PROJECTED TO PROVIDE A DRY CLEANING CONCEPT WHERE THE TOXIC MATERIAL AND ITS BYPRODUCTS (POTENTIALLY TOXIC) CAN BE CONCENTRATED IN A CHEMICAL TRAP RATHER THAN BEING DILUTED IN A LIQUID PHASE SOLVENT. THIS CONCENTRATION FEATURE THUS PROVIDES A SMALL VOLUME OF MATERIAL FOR FURTHERPROCESSING (E.G. THERMAL DECOMPOSITION) OR STORAGE. THE TECHNOLOGY APPEARS TO OFFER A PRACTICAL DETOXIFICATION D DEVICE WHICH CAN BE USED TO DETOXIFY EQUIPMENT IN SITU OR BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT THAT HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED BY ACCIDENT.
