Abstract
IN PHASE I VARIOUS HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS WILL BE USED IN COMPOSITE CONFIGURATIONS WITH NOBLE METALS AND LOW TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS TO CONSTRUCT CONDUCTORS TO SERVEEITHER AS "COLD ENDS" OR "INTERMEDIATE-TEMPERATURE ENDS" OF CURRENT LEADS THAT WILL TRANSPORT CURRENT FROM AMBIENT-TEMPERATURE EQUIPMENT INTO A DEVICE OPERATING IN A CRYOSTAT AT LIQUID HELIUM TEMPERATURES. THE SAMPLE COMPOSITE CONDUCTORS WILL BE CAREFULLY CHARACTERIZED AS TO THEIR MICROSTRUCTURE, MAGNETIZATION PROPERTIES, AND TRANSPORT CURRENT. THE CRYOGEN SAVINGS REALIZED BY USING THESE MATERIALS WILL BE COMPARED WITH THE USE OF STANDARD TUBULAR COPPER CURRENT LEADS.
