Abstract

At present carefully placed arrays of dynamic pressure transducers placed on, within and around wind tunnel models must be calibrated prior to testing. Failure to calibrate properly has the potential to negate some fraction of test results. Current calibration techniques are inconvenient and expensive. Products for dynamic calibration exist, but they are not hand portable and are also not amenable to testing sensors already integrated into models. During Phase I, SARA developed a portable dynamic pressure transducer calibrator that provides output pressures of 150dB SPL over a frequency range of 500 Hz to 5000 Hz. In Phase II SARA will develop a fully integrated calibrator with higher output pressure level and operating frequency range than the Phase I prototype, install the calibrator at AEDC, produce system manuals and train AEDC personnel to operate the calibrator system.
