Abstract
RESEARCH IS PROPOSED TO DEVELOP MATHEMATICAL ALGORITHMS AND COMPUTER PROGRAMS CAPABLE OF USING TOMOGRAPHIC DATA FOR RAPID NONDESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION OF STEEL SHEET. THE TECHNIQUE COULD PROVIDE A MEASUREMENT OF THICKNESS ACROSS THE FULL WIDTH OF THE SHEET AND POSSIBLY DETECTION OF SURFACE AND INTERNAL DEFECTS. THE EMPHASIS IS UPON SCANNING OF VARIOUS THICKNESS SHEETS AT MILL SPEEDS (100 FEET/SEC.). SUCH A DEVICE COULD ALSO BE INSTALLED AT A CUSTOMER FACILITY.
