Abstract

This proposal has three main efforts:1. Extension of the ATM Forum ABR protocol to allocate bandwidth according to quality of service (QoS) and priority level of the individual connection. This project will utilize the informational bits provided by the fields to support QoS and priority level acknowledgment.2. Design of an ATM application that utilizes the ABR service via an application programmers interface (API). The end system application will access the API, which supports ABR capabilities, to efficiently carry out the application functions.3. Extension of the Air Force Survivable ATM system to incorporate ABR as an aid in providing network link information back to the end systems. One of the key components of the Survivable ATM system is the Transmission Error Control Subsystem (TECS). Since the TECS is capable of receiving and transmitting ATM cells, the TECS can be extended to receive and transmit ABR Resource Management (RM) cells.
