Abstract
THE SURVEILLANCE REQUIREMENTS TO DEFEND THE CARRIER GROUP AGAINST THE LOW CROSS SECTION, HIGH SPEED CRUISE MISSILE THREAT IS IMPOSING. THE ENERGY AND MOMENTUM INTERACTION OF THESE HIGH SPEED BODIES WITH THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE SEA SURFACE, EITHER AT BREAKWATER, OR DURING LEVEL FLIGHT, MAY VERY LIKELY CREATE DISTURBANCES WHICH ARE OBSERVABLE BY LONG RANGE RF SENSORS. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PHASE I PROGRAM EFFORT ARE TO PROVIDE A BASIS FOR MEANINGFUL EXPLORATION OF THE TARGET DETECTION AND RECOGNISTION CAPABILITY AFFORDED BY THE DYNAMIC INTERACTION PHENOMENA AFFECTING RADAR CROSS SECTION SIGNATURES. THIS IS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH WELL PLANNED EXPERIMENTS AND MODELLING TO BE CONDUCTED DURING PHASE II.
