Abstract

The Active Resource Manager (ARM) will perform dynamic decision-making for self-managing networks. To accomplish this, ARM will access information from a wide range of network resources and cyber-defense sensors, and it will use this information to generate and maintain a situation awareness model. The situation model will consist of a structured, dynamic representation of significant situation parameters and their interrelationships. ARM will use the situation model to support the dynamic planning operations necessary for automated and semi-automated administration of enterprise network management systems. The ARM will be developed using a combination of existing and innovative technologies. For its interface to the network, ARM will rely on existing tools in network management and network defense. For its underlying design, it will use Sentar’s advanced multi-agent technology, KnoWeb®. For its situation awareness and dynamic planning, ARM will use innovative virtual reasoning techniques and strategies for dynamic decision making.
