Abstract
SI2 Technologies, Inc. (SI2) proposes to design and manufacture a low-cost, conformal Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) on the dome of the tri-mode seeker of the Joint Common Missile (JCM). SI2’s approach will offer a low-cost solution to providing the required EMI shielding while enabling improved seeker performance compared to rectangular grid patterns. For instance, due to the specific resonant nature of the FSS, an improvement of transmission in the Ka band used by the millimeter wave radar (MMW), one mode of the seeker, and rejection of other bands will be possible. Concurrently, SI2’s proposed FSS will offer an improvement in transmission of the dome in the infrared region of the spectrum, which is used by two modes of the seeker. The low-cost manufacture of the FSS on the interior of the dome will be accomplished through the use of SI2’s family of Direct Write processes. This will enable the proposed FSS to be integrated with the Army’s desired dome manufacturing approach and provide a cost effective dome with integral EMI shielding and improved JCM seeker performance.
