AbstractThe design and analytical modeling of an optimized cryogenic liquid storage system utilizing densified cryogen technology and innovative packaging techniques to minimize environmental heat leak is proposed. This Phase II effort also includes thefabrication and liquid nitrogen testing of a full-length lightweight flexible sensor array capable of both temperature measurement and vapor/liquid detection for mass gauging. Detailed design and analysis of an experimental prototype will be completed toenable future full-scale liquid hydrogen testing of the proposed low temperature cryogen liquid storage system. Several options for accelerating the deployment of the system are also proposed. This work builds on the successful Phase I effort thatresulted in two feasible concepts that addressed the identified requirements and constraints of the Space Based Laser and provide improved performance relative to the current baselined reactant storage system.
