Abstract
There is a growing interest in obtaining environmental dta in the littoral environment. In particular, Acoustic and non-acoustic surveillance systems require concurrent or recent environmental data from the immediate area of interest for accurate system performance prediction due to the spatial and temporal vaiablity fo shallow water. Different types of systems require different parameters, whether optical, acoustic, electric field, or wave characteristics. Key to meeting this requirement is developing a system that can measure the parameters of interest, that is easily deployed by aircraft, that is affordable either by being inexpensive enough to be deployed at a rate driven by the temporal vaiablity, or by gathering data from one buoy for an entire mission, and this is compatible with Navy patrol aircraft launchers and radio receivers.
