The proposed project will create an innovative sensor system to augment an outer ring of defense used for queuing, classifying, and tracking go-fast boats, small and commercial craft, swimmers and divers that are a threat to harbors, anchorages, and other high value assets. The Modular, Deployable Sensor System (MDSS) will be part of the Navy’s deployable capability in locations where US or host nation security infrastructure is either inadequate or nonexistent. It utilizes a combination of proven sonobuoy sensors and adaptations of current technologies to meet the mission needs. SkySight Technologies’ experience and expertise, combined with this unique approach, creates a low cost, lightweight, modular, and reusable system to be easily deployed and recovered by a single person in a small surface craft. The MDSS system more than doubles the targeted time between servicing and is capable of being moored in littoral waters for extended periods because of an innovative, multi component, mooring system. In addition to a baseline of proven passive acoustic sensors, this Phase I study utilizes external funding to investigate the feasibility of including innovative alternative sensors and processing techniques for the Phase II and beyond. The MDSS system fills a critical gap in Navy sensors.
