AbstractSonalysts, Inc. proposes applying the concepts developed in Phase I toward the design and development of a prototype Combined Arms Training Support System (CATSS). This prototype will demonstrate the potential for low-cost simulations to be integratedinto training environments. The training audience for the CATSS prototype would range from deployed high-level Naval staff officers to Marine expeditionary force commanders. The intended CATSS simulation exercise begins with ship commanders and staffofficers planning amphibious operations and ends with tactical engagements on land, with the appropriate naval, ground and air assets represented. This system could also be used to support rehearsal of proposed plans in preparation for real-worldoperations. The basic framework for this prototype simulation system will be to integrate two existing simulations, namely, MAGTF XXI and Jane's Fleet CommandT using a high level architecture ( HLA) interface. Specific tasks will include: developing theHLA-simulation system architecture, developing simulation system data structures, incorporating associated primary software components with simulation system, installation of the CATSS prototype onboard a deploying LHA/LHD for evaluation, and researchingthe requirements to transition the CATSS prototype to a development system.
