AbstractDuring Phase I, Sonalysts successfully demonstrated the feasibility of our approach for providing Individually Adapted Web-Based Training. During Phase II, we will advance this vision by extending some critical enabling technology. Our state-of-the-art review of adaptive web-based training has served to reinforce our view that a comprehensive and dynamic learner model represents the lynchpin in supporting adaptive decision-making within the training delivery system. Therefore, during Phase II, Sonalysts will focus our efforts on this key enabling technology. Sonalysts' Phase II approach can be summarized by two overarching goals: (1) Extend/enhance existing ULM capabilities to facilitate their use in a standard SCORM-conformant RTE, and (2) Extend/enhance a SCORM-conformant LMS to make use of ULM capabilities for gathering and reporting LO mastery evidence and to make instructional decisions. We will demonstrate the ability of adaptive and traditional SCOs to produce and/or consume ULM data. We will also demonstrate extensions to a SCORM-conformant LMS to leverage the power of the ULM in support of activity selection and reporting.
