Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT'S PHASE I AND PHASE II EFFORTS IS TO DEVELOP AND DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNOLOGY FOR CONVERTING SMALL, INEXPENSIVE, COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE GASOLINE FUELED ENGINES TO BURN KEROSENE TYPE FUELS. THIS WILL LOWER THE INITIAL COST OF GENERATOR SETS AND WILL ENABLE A SINGLE FUEL TO BE USED ON THE BATTLEFIELD. THE PHASE I OBJECTIVE IS TO DETERMINE: 1. WHICH TYPE OF ENGINE SHOULD BE USED. 2. WHICH COMMERCIAL ENGINES ARE MOST APPROPRIATE. 3. WHAT MODIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED. MUCH OF THE ABOVE WORK WILL BE DEVELOPED FROM EXISTING SONEX RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERIENCE SUCH AS: 1. DEVELOPMENT OF A DIESEL FUELED 1.5 KW GENERATOR SET FROM GRUMMAN AEROSPACE. 2. APPLICATION OF MANY OF THE SONEX PATENTS FOR IMPROVED COMBUSTION.
