Abstract
THE INTRODUCTION OF TRANSPUTER TECHNOLOGY INTO THE COMPUTATIONAL COMMUNITY PRESENTS NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN NUMERICAL ANALYSIS. APPLICATIONS OF THIS TECHNOLOGY TO FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS NEED TO BE IDENTIFIED AND DEVELOPED. THIS PHASE I STUDY WILL DEFINE THE REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO CREATE A TRANSPUTER BASED FINITE ELEMENT SOLVER (TBFES). ASPECTS OF A TBFES WHICH WILL BE ADDRESSED INCLUDE ALGORITHM REQUIREMENTS WHICH EXPLOIT PARALLEL PROCESSING, CONFIGURATION OF TRANSPUTERS, AND EFFECTIVENESS IN COMPARISON WITH CONVENTIONAL FINITE ELEMENT METHODS.
