Abstract
A Scramjet/Ramjet Heat Exchanger Analysis Tool (SRHEAT(TM)) is proposed for rapid design and optimization of complex thermal cooling systems. The basic SRHEAT(TM) code was developed under the Phase I SBIR. The objective of this Phase II program is to enhance the current SRHEAT(TM) code functions by adding additional capabilities that will provide increased accuracy and ease of use to the existing tool, while maintaining the ability to quickly evaluate multiple scenarios and trade studies. This additional capability provides the user with not only a quick trade study tool, but also a tool for performing the detailed follow-on analysis, all with a single code. In the emerging field of high-speed aerospace, it is necessary that rapid modeling of complex thermal systems be accomplished to enable the trade studies required to optimize the design for weight, cost, and performance. To meet this need, SPIRITECH proposes the development of a ramjet/scramjet heat exchanger design and optimization tool that performs a thermal analysis of the heat exchanger, assesses its structural strength, and optimizes its design for minimum cooling flow and weight. Options for selecting the coolant fuel and heat exchanger material will be made available so that their effects may be determined.
