Abstract
SUNBURST TECHNOLOGY, INCORPORATED PROPOSES TO MODEL THE INTERACTION OF LOW DENSITY, HIGH VELOCITY PLASMA WITH SOLID DENSITY ALUMINUM. THESE COMPUTATIONAL HYDRODYNAMICAL STUDIES ARE INTENDED TO (A) IDENTIFY AND CHARACTERIZE THE DOMINANT PHYSICAL PROCESSES IN THE PLASMA/SOLID INTERACTION, AND TO (B) BE A PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DAMAGE MECHANISM ASSOCIATED WITH THIS INTERACTION. THE INNOVATIVE FEATURE OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH EFFORT IS THE USE OF THE ADAPTIVE-GRID RADIATION HYDRODYNAMICS CODE WH80S. THIS IMPLICIT CODE WAS DEVELOPED BY DR. KARL-HEINZ WINKLER.
