AbstractThis SBIR brings together the major participants in tactical reconnaissance systems development under the eladership of the Synectics Corporation: (1) E-Systems (developer of the Joint Service Image Processing System and co-author on the Advanced Tactical Air Reconnnaissance Ssytems (ATARS) sensor data interface); (2) Loral Fairchild Systems (develpoer of the EO-LOROPS), and (3) Computing Devices Ineternational (CDI) (developer of the ATARS validation equipment and initial ATARS contractor). Synectics has performned similar reconnaissance deveopments and hast the understanding and skills to provide the Navy with interface definitions that allow today's reconnaissance systems to evolve to a fully interoperable reconnaissance system. An interoperable reconnaissance systems is a system of systems, and permits systems such as sensors, platforms, data transports (data links, magnetic storage media, etc.) and exploitation equipment to be interchangeable, acquired through separately competitive solicitation, and upgraded without disrupting the reconnaissance systems' capabilities. A key component of a system of systems is an architecture. It is the intent of this effort to establish the foundation for that architecture using an Open Systems Interconnect Model on efforts htat have already been accomplished. Phse I will provide the appropriate interface definitions so that a definitive architecture can be developed under Phase II.
