Abstract
THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION NEEDS STATISTICAL DATA ON THE X-RAY DAMAGE THRESHOLD OF PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM AND MAGNETIC MEDIA TO PREDICT POSSIBLE DAMAGING EFFECT OF HIGHER POWERED X-RAY FACILITIES BEING CONSIDERED AS PART OF INCREASED AIRPORT SECURITY. TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATES, INC. (TDA) PROPOSES AN EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM TO STATISTICALLY EVALUATE DAMAGE THRESHOLDS. X-RAY TRANSPORT ANALYSIS WILL PREDICT THE EFFECT OF CHANGES IN X-RAY EQUIPMENT PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS CORRELATED TO THE DAMAGE THRESHOLDS. TDA HAS ASSEMBLED A TEAM WHICH INCLUDES THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED EXPERT IN PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM RESPONSE TO X-RAYS, V. GLENN MCININCH, AND EASTMAN KODAK TO SUPPORT EVALUATION OF FILM. MARTIN MARIETTA WILL PROVIDE X-RAY TESTING SUPPORT. TDA PERSONNEL, WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN DEFINING X-RAY DAMAGE THRESHOLDS FOR ELECTRONIC SYSTEM COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE RESPONSE OF MAGNETIC MEDIA, WILL LEAD THIS STUDY.
