Abstract
Component layout plays an important role in the design of air vehicles, satellites, and many products in the defense industry. Automated synthesis of product layout can substantially reduce design cycle time while allowing for better design. The search for optimal layout typically requires a huge number of iterations and tight integration between the design and optimization methods. Multi-dimensionality, time dependent parameters, and complexity of the geometry and constraints, require generative modeling and computing methods to allow for the abstraction of the problem and the representation of physical and non physical characteristics of the components. Proposed herein is a generative object-oriented framework integrating layout modeling and optimization, applicable to wide a spectrum of applications. Detailed studies are fully automated reducing engineering time and cost while expanding the exploration of multidimensional (volume, position, time.) space and shape configuration. The framework provides hybrid optimization capabilities, integrated with an object-oriented environment, and coupled with geometrical modeling and reasoning for 3D packaging, layout, sizing, and connectivity. The environment will be developed, deployed, and exercised in the subsystem layout and configuration of air vehicles. It will facilitate thorough investigation of alternative configurations for optimal and effective subsystems design.
