Abstract
FOR EXTENDED SILENT OPERATION, MILITARY COMPACT VEHICLES REQUIRE AN ACTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL SYSTEM WHICH OPERATES ON NEGLIGIBLE POWER. SMALL SUBAMBIENT THERMAL STORAGE SERVICES MAY BE SUITABLE FOR SUCH USE. THIS PROPOSAL IS PHASE I OF A PROGRAM TO DEVELOP A FAMILY OF THERMAL STORAGE DEVICES WHICH USES HEAT PIPES AS A MEANS OF TRANSFERRING HEAT INTO AND OUT OF STORAGE.
