Abstract
Building on concepts developed in Phase I, we will design and demonstrate a fully integrated aircrew ensemble that provides the full spectrum of required protection while significantly reducing the bulk and heat stress of today's flight equipment. The Integrated Aircrew Ensemble (IAE) will leverage advanced materials technologies and novel design elements to create a revolutionary flight ensemble applicable across all Air Force aircrew and aircraft. TIAX proposes an innovative ¡single-layer¡" design that uses state-of-the-art and advancing technologies, and combines functions into three major components. The core capabilities of the system include: ,h Acceleration protection (G-tolerance) ,h Thermal protection (hot weather, cold weather) ,h Cold water immersion protection ,h Flame protection ,h Survival equipment storage/carriage TIAX¡¦s Phase II approach is based upon a spiral development process featuring iterative build-evaluate-modify cycles that use the Phase I concept, market research, and technology readiness analysis as the starting point. A combination of "works-like" demonstrations and full-scale "looks-like" mock-ups will be used to analyze and refine the concept. Evaluations will include Government and user input regarding expected human, component, and system performance. The overarching driver and metric is significantly improved aircrew performance without compromising safety. * Information listed above is at the time of submission. *
