TIAX LLC proposes to develop a medic blood pack for storage of packed red blood cells. The goals for the pack is to maintain up to 4 packs of packed red blood cells and keep them within a desired temperature range (1 to 10 C) for over 48 hours under extreme ambient conditions. The design will be met by an innovative combination of advanced thermal insulation and phase change materials. The Phase I effort has focuses on identifying the material(s) combination which is best able to achieve the desired technical goals. The Phase II effort will focus on refining the approach developed in Phase I to achieve the desired performance in the most cost effective and manufacturable manner.
