AbstractUnder sponsorship of the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC/XR), Toyon Research Corporation developed an innovative approah for simulating the interaction of an aircraft employing radar countermeasures against an attacking missile employing counter-countermeasures. The Toyon approach yields a simulation which is very fast running, yet models all principal factors, including those which are computationally demanding. It has been implemented under a Microsoft Windows environment using standard pull-down menus familar to PC users. This proposal is to initiate an effort to extend Toyon's innovative radar-guided missile simulation to include optically guided missiles. The integrated simulation will provide ASC and other users with the ability to (1) rapidly derive a quantitative understanding of target/missile engagements, (2) explore tradeoffs of the key parameters for the purpose of developing better radar and optical countermeasures and counter-countermeasures, and (3) efficiently train new personnel in the science of target/missile countermeasures. In order to prove both the feasibility and value of the proposed simulation, Toyon will deliver a computer disk containing executable code which demonstrates a sequence of interesting target/missile engagements employing optical seekers.
