AbstractThe proliferation of lasers in military applications requires R&D on optical limiters to protect against accidental and adversarial exposure to personnel and equipment. Thus, optical limiting materials are in great demand. The integration realistic modeling and simulation from first principles computations with experiments provides a fundamental understanding of materials and accelerate the task of developing materials for laser protection. Our goal is to develop practical tools and apply them in the optical characterization in a condensed phase of two important classes of optical limiting materials, reverse saturable and two-photon absorption materials.
