Abstract
THIS PROPOSAL DEMONSTRATES THE REQUIREMENT FOR AND ADDRESSES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MODEL OF AN IEEE 802.4 TOKEN PASSING BUS PROTOCOL WHICH OPERATES IN REAL TIME. THE ADVANTAGE OF THE REAL TIME APPROACH IS THAT IT EXTENDS THE EFFECTIVE LIFE OF THE MODEL TO INCLUDE NOT ONLY THE SYSTEM DESIGN PHASE, BUT ALSO THE SYSTEM MODIFICATION AND UPGRADE PHASES WHICH TYPICALLY OCCUR DURING THE LIFE CYCLE OF MILITARY SYSTEMS. THE CHARACTERISTIC OF REAL TIME EXECUTION ALLOWS THE MODEL TO BE INTEGRATED INTO EXISTING SYSTEMS IN ORDER TO PERFORM NONINTRUSIVE TESTING AND SYSTEM LOAD SIMULATIONS. THE TECHNICAL INNOVATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROPOSAL IS THE USE OF A DEDICATED, HIGH SPEED PROCESSING ELEMENT WHICH PERMITS OPERATION OF THE MODEL IN REAL TIME.
