Abstract
TO MEET THE NEED FOR APPROPRIATE EARLY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES. VSA EDUCATIONAL SERVICES HAS DEVELOPED A PROGRAM THAT EMPLOYS THE ARTS TO MITIGATE THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEMS OF PRE-SCHOOLERS WITH DISABILITIES. OUR RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM HINGES ON TRAINING PARENTS TO NURTURE AND TEACH THEIR CHILDREN. VSA EDUCATIONAL SERVICES IS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING A SERIES OF PARENTAL TUTORIALS ON VIDEOTAPE TARGETED TO PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND DESIGNED TO COMPLEMENT THE START WITH THE ARTS PROGRAM. THE VIDEOTAPES WILL FOCUS ON PROMOTING THE PSYCHO-MOTOR, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH THE USE OF AGE-APPROPRIATE ARTS ACTIVITIES.
