Abstract
THE PRODUCTION OF INSULATION FIBERGLASS RESULTS IN SUBSTANTIAL QUANTITIES OF WASTE PRODUCTS WHICH MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILLS IN SOME STATES. THE COST OF LANDFILLING THESE MATERIALS AT A SINGLE PLANT IS OFTEN IN EXCESS OF $1 MILLION/YEAR WHICH, IN THE END, IS PASSED ON TO THE AMERICAN CONSUMERS AND TAKES UP VALUABLE LANDFILL SPACE. THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ADVANCED INCINERATOR/GLASS MELTER IS PROPOSED AS A MEANS OF ELIMINATING THE SOLID/HAZARDOUS WASTEDISPOSAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCTION OF INSULATION PRODUCTS. THE TECHNOLOGY BEING PROPOSED FOR SOLID WASTE INCINERATION/MELTING IS BASED ON ADVANCED IN-FLIGHT SUSPENSION GLASS MELTING TECHNOLOGY BEING DEVELOPED BY VORTEC CORPORATION FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY.
