Abstract
In this Phase II SBIR program, Voxtel will design, manufacture, and test a 32 by 32 element, 30-micron pitch, 1064-nm optimized Geiger Mode (GM) avalanche photodiode (APD) array. The array will be electrically and optically characterized and will be tested for total dose radiation performance. The innovation is significant in that there currently are no APD/ROIC focal plane assemblies that have a sufficiently small feature size to support enhancements of image/target discrimination and tracking that are required to address advanced missile threat scenarios. The proposed innovation enables the development of a demonstrator of the dual mode seeker being targeted for the next generation avionics on the THAAD program and Carrier Vehicle concepts for MKV. The proposed approach is scalable to the 1024 by 1024 formats anticipated for future applications.
