Abstract
WAVEMAT PROPOSES TO USE AN EXISTING SINGLE MODE MICROWAVE APPLICATOR TO RESEARCH CERAMIC SINTERING. THE APPLICATOR DESIGN IS UNIQUE IN COUPLING EFFICIENCY OFFERING INTERNAL TUNING FOR SINGLE MODE OR CONTROLLED MULTI-MODE OPERATION. A LARGE SAMPLE MATRIX, IN WHICH THE SINTERING PARAMETERS ARESYSTEMATICALLY VARIED IS PROPOSED. THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF THE SINTERED CERAMICS WILL BE EVALUATED AND REPORTED. THESEDATA WILL BE AN IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE LITERATURE ANDAN INVALUABLE AID TO THE DESIGN OF ADVANCED MICROWAVE PROCESS EQUIPMENT AND SINTERING OF ADVANCED CERAMIC-BASED MATERIALS. THIS WILL BE A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WITH PERSONNEL AT MICHIGANSTATE UNIVERSITY. THE MSU PERSONNEL WILL BE TECHNICAL CONSULTANTS ON THE PROJECT AND WILL PROVIDE THE SUPPORT TO EVALUATE THE SINTERED CERAMICS.
