Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP NUMERICAL ALGORITHMS AND PROTOTYPE COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR DETAILED STRATIGRAPHIC AND LITHOLOGICAL THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING OF OIL RESERVOIRS BY SEISMIC METHODS. THE ACCURATE, HIGH RESOLUTION DETERMINATION OF THE ELASTIC PROPERTIES OF THE RESERVOIR MATERIALS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP IN OBTAINING ROCK PROPERTIES OF DIRECT INTEREST TO THE ENGINEER IN RESERVOIR MANAGEMENT AND ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY TASKS. THIS PROJECT EXTENDS AND FURTHER DEVELOPS TECHNIQUES FOR CONSIDERING COMPLEX GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURES IN EXPLORATION SEISMOLOGY BY COMBINING NOVEL GEOMETRICAL MODELING, SOPHISTICATED WAVE PROPAGATION SIMULATION, SEISMIC RAY TRACING, FULL ELASTIC WAVE FINITE ELEMENT SOLVERS, AND NONLINEAR OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES.
