Abstract
THIS PROJECT WILL CONSTRUCT AND TEST A PROTOTYPE MACHINE FORHARVESTING SHORT ROTATION INTENSIVE CULTURE WOODY PLANTATIONS IN THE LAKE STATES AREA. THIS HARVESTING CONCEPT IS ACCOMPLISHED IN TWO STEPS. THE FIRST STEP SEVERSTHE STEM FROM THE STUMP AND PILES THE STEMS IN A MINI WINDROW FOR AIR DRYING. THE SECOND STEP RECOVERS THE STEMS FROM THE GROUND AND PROCESSES THEM INTO WOOD CHIPS FOR TRANSPORTATION TO THE FIBER MILL. THIS EQUIPMENT WILL OFFERA COST-EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE FOR HARVESTING FUEL WOOD PLANTATIONS, AS WELL AS PROVIDE THE ENERGY FIBER CONSUMER WITH A SOURCE OF PARTIALLY DRIED WOOD CHIPS.
