Abstract
Safety concerns over the susceptibility of large Li-ion cells to thermal runaway during overcharge are one of the problems preventing the commercialization of these cells. New materials will be developed which will prevent thermal runaway and capacity fade from occurring. These will be substituted for a cell component that is believed to be involved in these processes.
