Research Institution
This Navy SBIR Phase II program looks at the updating (both structural and electronics) of the current Controlled Towed Vehicle (CTV) and the fabrication of a new mount/enclosure that will allow for the mounting of the CTV system on a standard military style wing plyon. The vehicle is primarily for use in atmospheric research, specifically the surface flow over the ocean. Towed behind a research aircraft the CTV vehicle is capable of being lowered over the ocean and holding a desired altitude that is specified by the system user. The CTV is designed so that it flies below any wake turbulence produced by the main research aircraft, thus, providing ''clean'' air data samples.
