Integrated Hypersonic Aerothermoelastic Methodology for TAV/TPS Structural Design and Optimization

Abstract"In Phase I, ZONA unified hypersonic/supersonic aerodynamic method ZONA7U in the aerothermoelastic software development for TPS/TAV design/analysis, was proven a successful tool through feasibility cases studied in the CKEM body, blunt cones and X-34wing-body. Further upgrade of ZONA7U to a high-fidelity panel method ZONAIR is proposed in order to enhance the universality of the aerodynamic capability with: 1) unified AIC for hypersonic/supersonic/subsonic Mach numbers; 2) exact paneling to modelOML surface; 3) high AoA flow; 4) corrected location/strength of impinged shocks; 5)two-body interference aerodynamics. Other proposed improvements of the erothermoelastic software include: i) incorporation of AEROHEAT to replace SHABP with ZONAIR andZSTREAM; ii) optimized TPS sizing procedure using complex variable differentiation sensitivity with MINIVER/EXIT; iii) applying temperature mapping onto structural FEM. The structural optimizer ASTROS* is used throughout for sizing TAV/TPS whilemaintaining the TPS design as a part of the load-carry structure. The TPS design adopts POST/OTIS for trajectory optimization in the outmost design cycle, thereby leafing to a final minimized fuel and weight objective. Meanwhile, ZONAIR and ASTROS* FEMwill be driven by the automed parametric grid-panel mesh genereation of AML, developed by Technosoft.
