Abstract
THIS RESEARCH WILL EXPLORE THE APPLICATION OF OBJECT-ORIENTED DATABASE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY FOR THE REPRESENTATION OF LARGE SCALE BIOLOGICAL INFORMATION SUCH AS GENETIC AND MOLECULAR DATA. THE DATA MODELS OF THESE DOMAINS WILL BE ANALYZED AND OBJECT-ORIENTED MODELS WILL BE DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED USING ADVANCED SOFTWARE ENGINEERING TECHNIQUES IN THE C++ LANGUAGE AND A COMMERCIAL ODBMS. THE RUN-TIME QUERY AND STORAGE PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE SYSTEM WILL DEMONSTRATE THE IMPROVEMENTS POSSIBLE OVER EXISTING RELATIONAL DATABASE SYSTEMS.
