Research Institution
A flameless JP-8 combustion and heat transfer technology will be developed for use in man-portable field-kitchen appliances. The technology developed is based on diffuse combustion on catalyst-coated heat transfer surfaces, and use of a passive fuel vaporizer. By using the passive vaporizer and catalytic combustion, efficiency will be maximized and burner emissions will be minimized. The diffuse combustion and close-coupled heat transfer will lead to a cooking surface with a very uniform temperature. The advanced flameless JP-8 combustion and heat transfer technology will require less fuel and lower logistic requirements. Less waste heat and lower exhaust emissions will improve the safety and comfort of cooks and kitchen staff.
