Abstract
MILLIMETER-WAVE SYSTEMS AND COMPONENTS REQUIRE THE HIGH PERFORMANCE WIDEBAND CIRCULATORS/ISOLATORS. E-TEK WILL ANALYZE, OPTIMIZE, DESIGN, FABRICATE, AND TEST A MICROSTRIP DROP-IN TYPE CIRCULATOR AT 40 GHZ DURING PHASE I R&D. THE MICROSTRIP CIRCULATOR WILL HAVE AN INSERTION LOSS OF 0.5DB, ISOLATION OF LARGER THAN 20 DB, AND MORE THAN 1 WATT POWER HANDLING CAPABILITY OVER A MINIMUM BANDWIDTH OF 4 GHZ.TO ACHIEVE THESE STRINGENT SPECIFICATIONS, E-TEK WILL DESIGNA TRIANGULAR RESONATOR ON A LOW LOSS, NARROW LINEWIDTH NICKEL FERRITE DISK SUBSTRATE, AND MAGNETIC BIASED AT SATURATION LEVEL (APPROXIMATELY 5000 GAUSS). INCLUDED IN THE DESIGN/FABRICATION ARE SPECIAL APPROACHES TO MINIMIZE LOSSES DUE TO MICROSTRIP CONDUCTIVITY, DISPERSION, SUBSTRATE SURFACE ROUGHNESS, JUNCTION DISCONTINUITIES, HIGH-ORDER HYBRID GENERATION AND RADIATION, ANISOTROPICITY OF SUBSTRATE, ETC.
