Abstract
GROUND AND SPACE CONTROL, COMMAND, COMMUNICATIONS, AND TELEMETRIC SENSING SYSTEMS DEMAND HIGH PERFORMANCE SWITCHES AND SWITCH MATRICES. THE CONVENTIONAL ELECTRICAL OR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL SWITCHES HAVE MANY SHORTCOMINGS. TO ELIMINATE THESE SHORTCOMINGS, E-TEK PROPOSES TWO NEW MICROMINIATURE ELECTRO-OPTIC SWITCHING MATRIX MODULES. USING OPTO-ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED CIRCUIT, THE MODULE IS PRACTICAL FOR THE FIBER OPTIC SYSTEMS. THE OPTICALLY CONTROLLED RF SWITCHING MODULE CAN DIRECTLY REPLACE EXISTINGELECTRICAL OR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL SWITCHES. IN ADDITION TO THEORETICAL ANALYSES OF PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS, TWO SINGLE-POLE DOUBLE-THROW (1X2) SWITCH MODULES WILL BE DESIGNED, OPTIMIZED, AND FABRICATED DURING PHASE I R&D TO DEMONSTRATE THE FEASIBILITY AND PRACTICALITY. SIMILAR DESIGN AND FABRICATION PROCEDURES CAN DIRECTLY APPLY TO THE MXN MATRIX MODULES.
