AbstractConversion of waste to useful fuel is an attractive alternative for forward deployed military units, not only to reduce the need for logistic fuels, but also to reduce the cots and the logistics burden of waste disposal, and to reduce the signature generated by the military waste foot print. In Phase I, Infoscitex Corporation (IST) demonstrated the ability to produce fuel pellets in the range of one-quarter to one-half inch in diameter from military field feeding waste with an energy usage of 13.8 percent of the gross energy content of the feed. In Phase II, IST will develop and demonstrate a prototype waste pre-processing unit capable of converting 100 to 200 lbs/hr of field feeding waste into pellets suitable for use in the Community Power Corporation BioMAx 25 gasification system. Modifications will be made to the equipment used in Phase I to reduce the parasitic energy loss to less than 10 percent of the energy content of the waste stream. The IST waste pre-processing unit will be designed to fit into an 8 ft x 8 ft x 20 ft ISO container with the CPC gasification unit. The prototype pre-processing unit will be demonstrated at an Army facility.
