Research Institution
United States military personnel are at constant risk of exposure to a vast array of chemical hazards. Acetylcholinesterase inhibiting pesticides (AChEIPs) represent a major subset of this risk. Provisions for force protection against AChEIPs must have sufficient sensitivity to provide the confidence needed to maintain mission-readiness. Although means of detecting the presence of AChEIPs in potable water in the forward arena do exist, no field-deployable means of confirming and estimating actual levels of these pesticides in water is readily available. In this Phase I SBIR program, Infoscitex proposes the development of an assay using Acetylcholinesterase-Bacteriorhodopsin Conjugates (ABCs) that will provide deployed personnel with the ability to assess organophosphate levels in water.
