Abstract
This project is focused on development of additives for use in advanced propellants. The additives will allow more powerful propellants with reduced blast and flash to be implemented by the Army without the negative effect of increased barrel wear and erosion. The additive works by providing both a lubricating coating to the gun barrel wall that is resistant to chemical attack and by doping of the barrel steel with a hardening agent. This approach provides a cost-effective solution that will increase the capabilities of Army weapons, in line with its modernization objectives.
