Abstract
Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) is the most recent generation of cellular phone technology that is being adopted for commercial, government, and military mission critical systems. One of the key enablers towards adoption of cellular technology in tactical environments is Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). MUOS is an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) SATCOM system the converts a commercial third generation (3G) Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) cellular phone system to a military UHF SATCOM radio system. In this work, the focus is to enhance the current design of MUOS WCDMA so that it can be applied to BS that are installed on rapidly moving platforms. This SBIR implements WCDMA algorithms for installation on rapidly moving platforms by inclusion of an ability to adapt the parameters such as slot-size, interleaving depth, channel prediction time scale as well as algorithms such as channel estimators based upon Rake receivers and Kalman filters to adapt to different RTT, channel coherence time, changes in propagation loss values and variability in Doppler-shifts.
