Abstract

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate the effectiveness of using Acree Technologies"Energetic Deposition Processes (EDP) for the development of advanced nonconductive anti-corrosion coatings for undersea cable connectors. EDP has the advantage that it produces high density, porosity free, uniform coatings on complex shaped objects, including the insides of tubes and is capable of coating large structures on a commercial basis. In addition, the coatings that will be demonstrated in this project have a proven track record for corrosion protection. EDP deposited nonconductive coatings will significantly improve the life of outboard cable connectors, which will translate into a decrease in the frequency of dry-docking submarines thus resulting in significant cost savings to the Navy.
