Abstract
Brown freckled eggs are produced and consumed prevalently in Europe and other part of the world outside of North America. High-speed reliable automated visual detection of defects on these classes of egg products is a technically challenging task due to the color variations of the egg shells themselves, as well as the many forms of potential contaminants.Coherix will enhance its existing high-speed egg inspection 3-dimensional machine vision computing algorithm and illumination technology to enable Michigan-based manufacturers of egg processing and sorting equipment to compete much more favorably in the significant global market for brown freckled and mixed-type egg processing machinery. Current processing speeds of 36 eggs per second achieved for "white" eggs predominantly produced in the United States will be maintained. This will enable the delivery of higher-quality food products to consumers of brown and freckled eggs at lower cost, as well as supporting the high-technology machinery manufacturing and machine vision technology industries' economic business and labor base in Michigan.
