AbstractThe ability of U.S. Forces to obtain accurate targeting information from real-time images is limited by time and physical constraints on computer systems. 21st Century Technologies has undertaken the FACTOR project to develop methods which negate these constraints by reducing the amount of data necessary to perform automated targeting. Upon implementation, FACTOR will greatly improve the tracking performance of new foveating sensors and munitions by increasing frame rates while shrinking bandwidth and processing requirements. The primary goal of the two year FACTOR/AFA Phase 2 effort is to refine the prototype algorithms into a fieldable system. At the conclusion of FACTOR/AFA Phase 2, we will demonstrate an end-to-end prototype system which, when combined with the profound and far-reaching applications that it enables, will provide an extremely strong case with which we can obtain Phase III commercialization funding. Applied to areas like missile threat warning, multiple-target tracking, surveillance, ballistic missile defense, counter-sniper fire, and collision avoidance, this technology will improve the situational awareness of U.S. battlefield commanders and protect the lives of military forces and civilians alike.
