Global Information Grid Automated Document Classification and Summarization System

The Department of Defense (DoD) requires an automated process to aid the timely dissemination of information to those with need to know without exposing secure information. Though security requirements often take a higher priority than users’ need for information, it is also imperative that actionable intelligence be received by warfighters, analysts, and agents who actively prevent security threats and terrorist activities. With the tremendous advances in the field of information retrieval, data can be exchanged at great speeds, but current redaction systems have not kept pace with the technology. To meet this need, 21CT proposes the development of GIGADOCS (Global Information Grid Automated Document Classification and Summarization System), a secure classification, reclassification, and summarization system. GIGADOCS will provide an SOA-enabled, scalable solution customizable to fit the security needs of multiple and diverse domains, which 1) automatically manages, classifies, distills, and summarizes innumerable documents over a massive network area, 2) provides tight security of classified data, and 3) reclassifies documents as the sensitivity level of the information changes. From the analyst to the warfighter, GIGADOCS alleviates the burden of human-intensive tasks through the exchange of timely information to enable rapid, informed response to intelligence without compromising “need to know.”
