AbstractThis project develops and evaluates a multimedia instant messaging (IM) system, VisualMessenger, that is designed to be usable independently by individuals with intellectual and othercognitive disabilities. The resulting newtechnology tool provides benefits in the areas of social connectedness, recreation, self esteem, andcomputer skills.
