Abstract
Akita Innovations proposes to develop the next generation of voltage-sensitive dyes for cellular bioelectricity measurements by engineering electric field sensitivity into a class of highly fluorescent dyes which heretofore have not been used for this purpose. The much higher brightness of these dyes will improve the sensitivity of the voltage measurements. Akita will also develop a method of targeting these dyes, as well as existing voltage sensitive dyes, to particular cell types and regions by conjugating them to polypeptides with appropriate specificity.
