AbstractThe advent of third generation (3G) wireless communications is producing exponential growth of wireless information exchange. 3G systems provide increases in bandwidth, data rate, number of users and volume of traffic. Furthermore, complex modern modulation techniques and severe co-channel environments push the envelope of processing requirements. Particularly challenging is the CDMA2000 standard (and its variants) and is the subject of the proposed effort. The focus of this Phase II proposal is to leverage the promising results of Phase I to produce a working prototype system. Utilizing a wealth of engineering skills and experience, the required hardware and software will be developed, integrated and tested. With the combination of multi-user detection (MUD) and array processing techniques it is anticipated the resulting system will advance the current state of the art to provide simultaneous detection, direction finding and copy of multiple co-channel CDMA2000 signals.
